What's your specific innovation commitment?

Many thanks to everyone who attended WSAE's National Summit on Association Innovation on September 14-15 in Madison, WI. I hope you all got as much out of the conference as I did, and are ready to start championing innovation and innovative practices in your own organization.

And specific thanks to one of our summit facilitators, Jeffrey Cufaude, for volunteering me to start this very discussion on WSAE's Innovation Hub--an online community for association professionals interested in sharing their thoughts, knowledge and experiences with innovation.

If you attended the Summit, you know that you have a very specific assignment. Right now, in front of your community of peers, tell us what specific change you are going to drive within your organization as a result of your attendance at the Summit. It can be small, it can be large, but it has to be something and it has to be innovative.

I have my own commitment that I will be pursuing, but I am not going to go first. Step up and tell what you're going to do, and we can all cheer and congratulate you when you get it done.

Thanks for sharing, Jeffrey and Larry.
Jeffrey - Those consultants in Indianapolis; they are in or out of the association space?
Larry - What kind of recommendations have you made? Clear communications about objectives and methods are critical to innovative operation. I'm sure others can learn from your experiences.

Directly based on some of my take-aways from the Innovation Summit, I've committed to pursuing more transparent communications within the organization and have already made several recommendations to our senior leadership team. I think my recommendations address some of our organizational ambiguity which helps block efforts to more deeply embed innovation here.

I have a two-fold commitment. Individually, I have reached out to other Indianapolis-based consultants to form an Innovation Network to explore a question of common interest. As an ASAE volunteer, I'm committed to ensuring we appropriately evaluate the InnovationTalks underway and curate key takeaways to then share in a different form with the entire membership.
