My name is Eric Lanke, and I'm the CEO of the National Fluid Power Association. I'm also this year's WSAE Board Chair, and it's been a real honor serving in that capacity. I've learned a lot about being on the "other side of the Board table," that has given me new perspectives and respect for the volunteers that serve on the NFPA Board.

I've been working in association management for 21 years--before NFPA at Executive Director, Inc., where I worked mostly with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. Over the course of my career I have had a lot of different experiences working with different kinds of associations in a variety of different positions.

One of the things I like best about my current role is the puzzle of strategy and action that the organization has to assemble and execute each year. What is it that we must achieve? Which of our programs and activities will best help us to do that? What will we measure so that we know that we're having the impact we think we should? These are the questions that occupy a large amount of my attention, and working to answer them in cooperation with a group of talented and committed Board and staff members is one of the most rewarding aspects on my job.

For my fun fact, I would cite the marathon I'm continually training for but have not yet run. There's nothing quite like pounding out the miles to help you appreciate the journey and the destination!

    Greetings,
My fun fact is I traveled through Europe with my family the summer after 6th grade. My parents purchased a VW pop-up van and a tent and away the 6 of us went for 60 days. I haven't willingly gone camping again.

I am the president of Walden Group, a company I started to provide eLearning solutions to associations. I love what I do because I get to learn about many different industries and professions while helping other professionals do good work.

    Cheers, Julie
