  • 1.  Advice on transitioning membership end date

    Posted 01-18-2012 05:07 PM

We are changing our membership renewal cycle from an annual membership cycle to end at our fiscal year, which is June 30th.

I am very excited by this for many reasons.  As a small staff (staff of 1) handling renewals on a monthly basis is hard because most people renew just before our annual conference when I'm swamped.  Moving to one clear, renewal date seems like it will make things easier. Maybe not at first, but in the long run.  We have done some reasearch and are prepared for the traditional questions and confusion.

However, I thought I would just ask for any words of wisdom from those of you that transitioned from an annual memebership cycle to a calendar year cycle?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Melissa,
I performed this transition in reverse and it went very smoothly. Here are some things to consider though:
    • If the due date is also the end of your fiscal year how will this affect your budgeting and end of year reports if members do not renew on time?
    • How are you going to communicate the amount of membership for the upcoming year? I assume members will be paying a different amount depending upon the month they used to renew in.

    Cheers, Julie
